Southern Kings fly-half Lionel Cronje pulls off circus trick against the Western Force

You might’ve seen a trick like this on a basketball court but never on a rugby field.

During the Southern Kings 46-41 loss to the Western Force on the weekend, South African fly-half Lionel Cronje decided to mix things up.

With his team down by a point midway through the second half, Cronje added some creativity to the Lions’ attack.

Cronje is fed the ball from the scrum-half and drifts across field waiting for his inside centre to cut back behind him.

As the player comes under him Cronje looks like he’s about to feed his centre the ball on an inside ball.

But the tricky fly-half moved the ball all the way around his body leaving the opposition standing still for a short moment.

With the defence giving Cronje time to act the South African playmaker saw some space in behind the defensive line and put in a deft grubber kick for his fullback.

Luckily for Cronje, the Force inside centre seemed to slip which created a perfect path for the ball to bounce up perfectly for his teammate to score right under the posts.

The try did hand the Kings the lead momentarily before the Force came back to take the win.

Nonetheless, full marks to the Cronje for being creative and trying something different.
