Sixth means sevens victory for Aust women

A historic rugby sevens world series title won't be enough for the Australian women's team in France, where they're aiming to burnish their Olympic prospects.

The Pearls' dominance in the five-round world series is such they need only to finish sixth in Clermont-Ferrand to claim a maiden title.

But coach Tim Walsh and his players - whose biggest goal is still 10 weeks away in Rio - have vowed to finish with a flourish in the final leg with a fourth tournament success.

"We came out this season to absolutely give the world series our best and to also have the preparation in mind to peak in Rio as well," Walsh told AAP.

"But we're not going out in this tournament to finish sixth. We're going out to perform at our best and go out on a high."

Walsh has welcomed back captain Sharni Williams from a long-term knee injury and strike weapon Ellia Green (shoulder) to pick his strongest and most experienced side to play Fiji, Ireland and France in day one pool matches.

Talented trio Alicia Quirk, Emma Tonegato and Charlotte Caslick have also been recalled after being rested for the last round in Canada where a young Pearls outfit finished third.

Second placed New Zealand, Canada and a resurgent England loom as Australia's biggest competition on a weekend where just one second-day win will guarantee them the 2016 crown.
