Abusive Wallabies fan reportedly 'distraught' following realisation of Lukhan Tui's personal tragedy

The abusive Wallabies fan involved in the ugly altercation with multiple Australian players following the team's loss to Argentina reportedly had no idea about Lukhan Tui's personal tragedy.

According to a Fairfax report, the man, whose identity was not revealed by Fairfax, said he was "shell-shocked" and "distraught" following the incident at the weekend, saying that he did not know Tui had lost his stepfather in the week leading up to the Wallabies' clash against Argentina. 

Rugby Australia today broke its silence on the incident, choosing not to take the matter further after discussions with Tui himself. 

The incident was reportedly sparked following a three-to-four minute tirade in which the fan told the Wallabies and tui to "play with some heart". 

Tui was further triggered when his younger sister was inadvertently pushed during the ugly altercation, a detail confirmed by Rugby Australia in a statement on Monday afternoon.

"One of Lukhan’s young family members was physically caught up in this exchange and this prompted the reaction from Lukhan," Rugby Australia boss Raelene Castle said in the statement. 

"The interaction between players and fans is an extremely important part of sport and we never want to see an incident like this again.

"We want Rugby fans to be able to get up close and personal with their heroes and our Wallabies stars."
