Rebels sign young rep fullback Maddocks

Melbourne Rebels have secured the signature of talented youngster Jack Maddocks after the fullback turned his back on cricket in a bid to play Super Rugby.

Maddocks is on a cricket scholarship at Sydney University and plays first grade as a batsman, but he played all five games at fullback for Australia in the recent under-20s rugby World Cup.

The 19-year-old Sydney product, who was the only Australian player to play every minute of the World Cup campaign, has signed with the Rebels for two years.

"To be able to play with and against the top players in the world is a challenge I'm really looking forward to," Maddocks said.
