‘Will he shut the ruck up?!’

That’s the sentiment from Peter FitzSimons toward Israel Folau for his latest slew of homophobic social media posts.

Speaking on 5 Minutes with Fitzy, the former Wallaby chastised Folau for his dogged stance on the issue during an already fragile time for Rugby after the Waratahs star posted excerpts of sermons from an evangelical preacher online which discriminated against homosexuals.

“Rugby at the moment; we have a diminishing audience, people who are not coming, people who are turning away, people who are not reading about it,” FitzSimons said

“Israel, we need you to pull your head in.

“When you put out this vile crap you are marginalising a section of the community that don’t deserve to be marginalised.

“Rugby is in real trouble right now, of all the times to pull your head in, now’s the starting point.”

Fitzsimons didn’t back down from calling out Rugby Australia’s responsibility in dealing with the issue either.

“I’ve just come from New Zealand…they’ve taken me aside and said ‘what’s going on? Why isn’t the administration taking him aside and getting this finished?’”

Fitzsimons insisted a definitive stance toward Folau had to be taken, drawing on when Stephen Moore and David Pocock reprimanded Jacques Potgieter for homophobic slurs in 2014.
