Wellington man farewelled with emotional haka after suffering head injury

Teammates of Wellington man Daniel Baldwin have gathered at his funeral to pay their respects to the player who passed away after suffering a head injury.

During the funeral, his teammates assembled as his casket was escorted out of the Wellington Football Club to deliver an emotional haka to farewell the young rugby player.

Baldwin suffered a head injury during a game, and was in a coma. He died in hospital shortly after.

His death was even acknowledged by Wellington's Westpac Stadium, where his image was displayed over the weekend. The accident has seen widespread coverage across New Zealand and has been acknowledged by the local Super Rugby franchise the Hurricanes where a moment's silence was observed before their game against the Cheetahs.

Over 500 mourners were present at the funeral, including his fellow players who performed the haka.

Baldwin showed symptoms of concussion and left the field during his Colts game 10 days ago. After having surgery, he was in an induced coma before passing away.
