Code-hopper Jarryd Hayne could be about to make a stunning return to Australia to play domestic football.

But it may not be the NRL or his beloved Parramatta Eels that wins the race to his signature.

9News reporter Danny Weidler has revealed the Australian Rugby Union has held meetings with the former NRL and NFL player's management in an attempt to lure him to Super Rugby.

Hayne is currently training with the Fijian sevens side in a bid to realise his Olympic dream.

But what happens with Hayne after Rio has been one of Australian sport's greatest mysteries with the 28-year-old attracting offers from European and Japanese rugby and back home with the NRL.

However, the ARU is hoping to entice Hayne to the domestic 15-man competition, despite the fact the player would not be eligible to play for the Wallabies, given his time with the Fiji Sevens.

Hayne is set to arrive in Sydney, along with former teammate Semi Radradra, to visit doctors about a nagging injury.
