Rousey admits she was suicidal afer Holm knockout

Ronda Rousey has opened up about her mindset following her loss to Holm in Melbourne at UFC 193, admitting she briefly considered suicide.

The Californian UFC fighter, who was previously undefeated, suffered a devastating knockout at the hands of Holm in November at UFC 193.

She has since opened up about the loss during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, recalling the moments leading up to the fight, and her immediate reaction in the aftermath.

“It was my third title fight in nine months and I don’t think anyone’s ever attempted that before,” Rousey said, when asked if anything was different about this particular fight.

“But I don’t make any excuses, I’ve fought in worse conditions.”

“I felt tired, but I’ve been more tired.”

Rousey then revealed it was the very first exchange between the pair which led to her downfall.

“I got clipped on the first exchange,” she recalled, explaining how her teeth were knocked loose in the blow.

“It was just destiny, it had to go down that way,” she said, revealing she lost all perception after the first hit.

A tearful Rousey began to explain the moments straight after the loss, when she reached the medical room and considered taking her own life.

“I was sitting in the corner and I was like, ‘What am I anymore if I’m not this?’ and I was thinking about killing myself.

“In that exact second I was like, ‘I’m nothing’ and no one gives a s—t about me anymore without this.”

She admitted it was her partner, fellow UFC fighter Travis Browne, who helped her through the evening.

“I looked up and I saw my man, Travis, was standing there and I just looked up at him and I was like ‘I need to have his babies, I need to stay alive’.”

Rousey is taking time off from fighting in 2016 to focus on acting, but plans to fight Holm again when the opportunity presents itself.
