Rayner Noosa Bolt win maintains run streak

Jack Rayner has won so many races in a row that he can't be sure how long his streak is.

The Melbourne runner does know he hasn't lost since April, though, with Saturday's 5km Bolt victory in Noosa the shortest distance in his impressive streak.

The 22-year-old finished in 14 minutes, 17 seconds, beating home James Nipperess (14:20) and Jordan Williamsz (14:24) in front of a big Sunshine Coast crowd ahead of Sunday's 36th Noosa Triathlon.

Rayner's training partner Melissa Duncan (16:11) defended her title from Emily Brichacek (16:17) and Madeline Hills (16:25).

"I think this is the 13th or 14th (win in a row) ... I think," he said.

"It started in April and I've been racing every month since then and haven't lost."

Rayner's coach is leaning towards turning him into a marathoner but he has his sights set on next year's cross country world championship, while a middle distance track career is also an option for the budding star.

Duncan's win is further proof she is competing over the right distance, having withdrawn from her Rio Olympics campaign - she was due to run the 1500m - with a foot injury.

"Tokyo is my aim, because I don't want to miss another Olympics," she said.

"I think I'm better at the endurance (races) than 1.5km now. I'd just never tried 5km until last year."
