St Louis Rams back-up running back Trey Watts has been suspended indefinitely without pay for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

In May, the NFL issued Watts a four-game suspension for his first violation of the same rule and he missed the first four games of this season.

"I made a mistake and now I have to deal with it," Watts said in August.

"I'm disappointed in myself because I feel like I let people down. I let my teammates down and I let my family down."

Watts, 24, also was a special teams player who played in 14 games as an undrafted rookie last season.

The Rams released Watts last month at the end of his suspension, signed him to the practice squad, then promoted him to the active roster on October 23. He has not appeared in a game this season as the Rams have started 4-3.
