Windy conditions delay rowing at Rio

The second day of rowing at Rio 2016 has been delayed because of the wind whipping across the Lagoa Stadium.

Racing will not start until at least 10:30am, which is a two-hour delay.

Rowers complained on the opening day of the Olympic regatta about being made to race in windy conditions.

The International Rowing Federation FISA warned worse weather was forecast in the coming days and that bore fruit on Sunday morning.

"Competition delayed due to weather," read an official statement. "Competition will not start before 09:30."

It is understood the adverse weather led to issues arising with the Albano buoy system, which marks the race course.

The first race of the day on the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon was to have begun at 8.30am local time (2130 AEST).

The weather is expected to worsen over Monday and Tuesday, when more races are scheduled, according to FISA.
