STAR OF THE DAY: Kim Brennan. Calm and classy, Brennan dominated the final of the women's single scull, taking a commanding lead early in the race and charging home to win Australia's first Olympic rowing gold medal since husband Scott in the double sculls in Beijing in 2008. It adds to the single scull bronze and the silver in the double she won in London.

TALKING POINT: The underperforming swimmers, again. Australia's swimmers went to Rio talking about reclaiming the No.1 status off the US. A series of failures from gold medal favourites quickly put an end to that ambition. Australia ended with three gold, the US 16.
