Teary Emma McKeon too upset to speak after butterfly final

An upset and teary Emma McKeon was too emotional to speak in an interview after finishing seventh in the 100m butterfly final in Rio.

Visibly distressed, McKeon struggled for words when she was asked by a reporter poolside, “What did you think of your swim?”

"It was bad,” was all McKeon could reply before turning her back on the camera and walking off to the change rooms.

McKeon had finished second in her semi-final race for the event with a time of 56.81 seconds, but swam slower in the final to finish behind gold medal winner Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden and five others.

This is McKeon’s first Olympic Games after she narrowly missed out on selection for London in 2012.

McKeon, whose father was an Olympic swimmer and mother competed at the Commonwealth Games, will also compete in the 200m freestyle.

McKeon is competing at Rio with her brother David McKeon who finished seventh in the 400m freestyle.
