Australia is looking every bit gold medal fancies in the women's rugby sevens after Maddison Levi led the team to two commanding wins from as many games on the opening day of competition in Paris.

Having pouched four tries to inspire a 34-5 win over South Africa in the side's first match, Levi was at it again hours later against Great Britain.

She started by producing an incredible try-saving tackle to deny Ellie Kildunne – although the Brits opened the scoring moments later – before racing down the field minutes later to open Australia's account.

Another try followed moments later before she made it two hat-tricks on the bounce in the second half as Tim Walsh's side ran out 36-4 winners.

The only concern of the day came late in the win over South Africa, when Kaitlin Shave suffered a knee injury.

She went down after her knee appeared to buckle, but stayed on the field only to be handed a yellow card for a high tackle.

She immediately went into the hands of medical staff, who said they would have substituted her had she not been sin-binned, and was replaced in the squad for the Great Britain match by reserve Kahli Henwood.

Australia sits at the top of Pool B, and plays Ireland at 10:30pm on Monday (AEST) to round out the group stage.
