Diver devastated after scoring a zero as mistimed tuck causes feet to hit the board

US diver Alison Gibson was lucky to escape injury after a painful dive during the 3m women's springboard competition on Wednesday.

She was trying to secure a semi final spot when her feet got caught on the board mid-air during an inward two-and-a-half pike attempt.

The mishap caused her to fall awkwardly into the water, making a large splash.

As Gibson got out of the water she was seen covering her eyes but was luckily not injured.

Her opening dive earned zero points, but she managed to complete her remaining four dives.

She ultimately finished last out of 28 participants, with a score of 198.30.

Australia's Maddison Keeney and Alysha Kolo both competed in the 3m women's springboard competition and advanced to the semi finals held on Thursday.

After an impressive performance, Keeney earned a place in the final, which will get underway at 11pm AEST on Friday.
