Matt Ebden and John Peers etched their name into Australian folklore at Paris 2024 - and they received a "really special" message from a tennis great to cap it off.

The pair emerged with the Olympic gold medal after defeating American duo Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajiceck in a narrow final on Sunday morning (AEST).

Speaking to Nine after the win, Ebden admitted the emotions were running high.

"I can't wipe the smile off my face," he said.

"To be here with friends and family in Paris and have this heavy hunk of gold around my neck, it's more than a dream. I just want to share it with the rest of Australia - I wish I was at home right now to celebrate and party with Australia.

"I've been counting my blessings to be Australian these past couple of days, I was a bit emotional yesterday. Just the incredible pedigree and history we have to learn from.

"I'm so glad we could get a gold medal for Australia."

And it was Woodbridge who was among the first to congratulate the 2024 winners.

"Any time we get to hear from Todd and Mark is really special," Peers said.

"Todd sent us an unbelievable voice note each and to hear from him [was nice].

"We've been able to lean on him for a number of years - to get something from him straight away was really special. Hopefully, we'll get to catch up with him a bit later."

Ebden also confirmed that Ash Barty reached out to praise the Aussies for their gold medal victory in Paris.
