Argentinian unit's wayward throw at Paris Games belts broadcast microphone
Hammer throwers are among the most powerful athletes in world sport, which was clear to see when an Argentinian unit sent the hammer careering into a broadcast microphone in Paris.
Joaquin Gomez launched the hammer at the Stade de France and it crashed into a microphone set up on the pastures of the inner-track area at the Olympic Games.
The hammer veered left of the 35-degree area and claimed an innocent victim.
Gomez failed to advance from the qualification stage, in which Canadian duo Ethan Katzberg and Rowan Hamilton topped the results with throws of 79.93 and 77.78 metres respectively.
The athletics action at the Stade de France got under way on Friday.
