More Russian teams cleared for Rio

Russia's gymnastics, fencing, triathlon and volleyball teams have been cleared to compete at the Rio Olympics.

R-Sport news agency cited Vasily Titov, vice-president of the International Gymnastics Federation, as saying on Wednesday that the Russian gymnasts had been cleared.

The agency also reported the fencing team was cleared by the sport's governing federation, while Russia's volleyball and beach volleyball teams were cleared by the International Volleyball Federation.

Meanwhile, the International Triathlon Union says all six Russian triathletes can compete.

On Sunday, the IOC decided against a blanket ban on all Russian athletes for the August 5-21 Games, but rather left it to the sports federations to decide which Russians would be eligible to compete in Brazil.

It is positive news for Russia, which has had at least 105 athletes from its 387-strong Olympic team banned so far over the country's doping scandal.

The International Fencing Federation says 197 tests taken from Russian athletes in 35 countries over the past two years have all been negative.

Sixteen Russian fencers have qualified for the Rio Games and there are four reserves.

Meanwhile, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko has received a reply from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), saying the exclusion of Russian track-and-field athletes from the Rio Olympics can't be reversed.

He sent a letter to the IAAF on Monday asking it to allow clean Russian athletes to take part in the Games.
