Japanese pole vaulter's penis knocks down bar

In the precision sport of pole vaulting, anything can make a difference.

Japanese pole vaulter Hiroki Ogita was attempting to clear a height of 5.3m in the pole vault qualifying round in Rio, when he suffered an unfortunate mishap.

First his thigh barely touched the bar, but it looked like it would stay in place.

But then his penis also hit the bar, knocking it to the ground.

On a second try, he managed to clear the bar but still failed to make the finals after coming in 21st place.

While he didn’t go home with a medal, Ogita’s misfortune has become a viral sensation of the Rio Olympics.

In the finals, Brazilian athlete Thiago da Silva cleared 6.03m to win the gold.

Defending champion Renaud Lavillenie got silver, and American Sam Kendricks took bronze.
