HOW CANOE/KAYAK SPRINT WORKS AT THE OLYMPICS:
* The basics of canoe sprint are simple. Get to the finish as fast as possible - the fastest person wins.
* The canoe is an open boat paddled from a kneeling position with a single-blade paddle with one or two canoers.

* The kayak is a closed boat with a cockpit for sitting in and carries one, two or four kayakers.
* Races in the Olympics are 200m, 500m or 1000m metres long.
* There are 12 events with men contesting eight and women four.
* Women only race kayaks, not canoes.
* In Rio, racing will be held at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon.
