Firefighters battle blaze near competition venues in Rio's north

Firefighters are battling a bushfire close to Olympic competition venues in Rio de Janeiro’s north.  

Strong winds are fuelling the blaze, which according to Globo News is burning near the Olympic Shooting Centre in Deodoro. 

There are no more competitions underway at the centre, but smoke is reportedly thick in the air at other nearby competition venues. 

There are at least two focal points of the blaze, local firefighters said. 

According to Olympic organisers, the fire does not represent an immediate risk to the venues but it is being closely monitored due to the strong winds.
