Ferguson narrowly misses men's skeet final

A single missed target has denied Australia's Keith Ferguson a shot at an Olympic medal in the men's skeet in Rio.

Ferguson hit 120 of 125 in qualification to finish ninth on Saturday, just one shy of the mark that could have got him into the finals.

He had two perfect rounds of 25, but fell short in three others.

It was a marked improvement on his effort at the 2012 London Games where he finished 20th.

Countryman Paul Adams came 19th with a score of 118/125.

It wasn't a great day for fellow Australian David Chapman, who finished last in a field of 26 for the men's 25m rapid fire pistol.

It was the 51-year-old's third Olympics but worst Games result, having finished 18th in London and 20th in Sydney.
