China's sneaky attempt to change Olympic tally, USA moves to second in the re-jigged list
Chinese media has been exposed trying to manipulate the 2021 Tokyo Olympics medal tally by putting their nation at the top of the list, ahead of the USA, despite finishing second.
This year's Games saw the USA finish first with 39 gold medals, while China (38 gold medals) came in at second, with host nation Japan finishing third with 27 golds.
However, China Central Television (CCTV), which is a state-controlled broadcaster run by the Chinese Communist Party, listed their nation with 42 gold medals.
Despite the official Olympic tally attributing 38 gold medals to China, CCTV found a way to boost their medals by including Taiwan and Hong Kong in the overall tally. However, even including those two nations' efforts only adds three gold medals, so it is unclear where the 42nd gold has been brought in from. Taiwan and Hong Kong competed under their own flags.

Hong Kong earned just one gold medal at the Games, while Taiwan, which competes as 'Chinese Taipei', earned two gold medals.
The re-jigged tally came to light after it did the rounds on Chinese social media platform, Weibo.
And from there, the graphic appeared all over mainstream social media with fans on Twitter taking notice of the bizarre tally.
