Power issues affecting water flow have forced the cancellation of the canoe slalom training runs at Rio's Whitewater Stadium, with gold medal hope Jessica Fox the only Australian team member able to complete her session.

Organisers released a statement on Thursday saying the runs were cancelled due to "technical issues" on the course in Deodoro, with an Australian official telling AAP the problems were electricity-related.

Fox was in the water early before organisers pulled the plug on the day at 12.30pm local time, meaning fellow Australians Ian Borrows and Lucien Delfour didn't get a hitout.

The canoe slalom events begin on Sunday, with Borrows in action in the C1 before Delfour opens his campaign in the men's K1.

London silver medallist Fox's quest to go one better in Rio starts on Monday in the women's K1.
