Bogut to be given every chance for Rio

Andrew Bogut will be given up to the Boomers' first game to prove his fitness for the Rio Olympics.

The Australian camp admits he's a long shot but says the NBA star is tracking well in his recovery from a knee injury.

"He is here putting in the rehab and its responding well, but there is still a long way to go," coach Andrej Lemanis told News Corp Australia.

The new Dallas Mavericks recruit is reportedly likely to be named in the Boomers' 12-man Rio squad next week despite the centre hurting his knee in former team Golden State's losing finals series against Cleveland last month.

Tournament rules allow teams to make changes to squads until the first day of Olympic basketball competition on August 6 when Australia is to play an undetermined opponent.

"He is very realistic, in terms of putting the hard work in and seeing how it progresses," Lemanis said.

"He is smart enough to understand you cannot force these things and push them."
