Bittersweet Tyack exits archery tournament

Australian archer Ryan Tyack has made a bittersweet exit from the Olympics, bowing out early in the individual event but with a team bronze team medal around his neck.

Tyack went down 6-2 to Belgian's Robin Ramaekers in the opening round at a windy Sambadromo, winning the opening set but unable to close out the match to progress to the final 32.

"Realistically the weather wasn't too much of a factor, I just wasn't really feeling my body and it wasn't where it should be at for the match-play competition," Tyack said.

"If you're trying to make the medal matches you have to be shooting well and hitting the middle, and I just wasn't quite feeling it today."

But the 25-year-old Queenslander will still leave in the knowledge he claimed his country's first archery team medal on Saturday.

"I'm stoked that I'm able to go home with a medal but it's obviously a bit bittersweet as I wish I could have gone better here," he said.

Teammate Taylor Worth is Australia's only remaining individual hope.

He will take on Spain's Antonio Fernandez in the round of 16 on Friday.
