Midfielder Aran Zalewski has been called into the Australian men's hockey squad for the Rio Olympics after Tristan White was ruled out with a knee injury.

White sustained a tear to his posterior cruciate ligament during an internal training match, and will be unable to rehabilitate the injury in time for the Games which begin on August 5.

"It's clearly devastating news for Tristan who has done very well to be selected in the final 16 in what would have been his first Olympics, following strong performances throughout 2016," said Hockey Australia's high performance director Andy Smith.

The 25-year-old Zalewski has been a regular member of the Kookaburras' set up since 2013.

Finalising the full team, the three reserves who will travel to Rio with the squad have been named as Jeremy Hayward, Tom Craig and Tyler Lovell.

Kookaburras squad: Daniel Beale, Andrew Charter (GK), Chris Ciriello, Matthew Dawson, Tim Deavin, Jamie Dwyer, Matt Gohdes, Blake Govers, Fergus Kavanagh, Mark Knowles, Eddie Ockenden, Simon Orchard, Matthew Swann, Glenn Turner, Jake Whetton, Aran Zalewski. Reserves: Jeremy Hayward, Tom Craig, Tyler Lovell.
