Roosters captain Jake Friend to have arm surgery, will miss eight weeks

Sydney Roosters captain Jake Friend will undergo surgery on Tuesday after scans confirmed he fractured his right forearm during Saturday's NRL win over Newcastle.

The hooker injured his arm around a screw that was inserted 12 weeks ago to fix a torn biceps muscle in the same limb.

The incident occurred early in the premiers' 48-10 win over the Knights in just Friend's second game back from his long-term layoff.

Friend will have a plate inserted in his arm and is set to miss up to eight weeks, meaning he may not play again until the finals. The 29-year-old has managed just five appearances in an injury-plagued season.

"We're all disappointed because finally we got back our crew of decision makers," Roosters coach Trent Robinson said after Saturday's match.

"We got our captains back on the field for the first time in a long time."

Robinson will shift lock Victor Radley to No.9 or bring in Sam Verrills for the Roosters' clash with Canterbury on Sunday.
