State of Origin 2016: Game II

Powered by

Queensland has secured a tenth State of Origin series victory in 11 years with a 26-16 victory over NSW in a see-sawing game two at Suncorp Stadium.

The Maroons class was again evident with winger Dane Gagai scoring the first hat-trick for Queensland since Matt Sing in 2003.

More to come.

10.08pm: NSW have got the ball down. Ruled no try though but we're going upstairs. No try, Jennings knocked it on as he jumped to take the high kick.

10.05pm: Thurston has kicked the goal. All over you'd think. 26-16 with just over five minutes to go.

10.03pm: Queensland has scored! The video ref has given it. Oates crossed after a sublime pass from Thurston to Boyd. Too good.

10.00pm: What would be a levelling try is ruled out for NSW. Jennings got the slightest touch on it so a knock on was the ruling.

9.56pm: 20-16 now after Maloney slots the kick. Game on.

9.54pm: Wow! Maloney is over for NSW! Maloney intercepted a bat back from Gagai and charged 80, 90m to score. NSW off the ropes again!

9.53pm: Queensland ahead 20-10 with just over 15 minutes to go. NSW with it all to do.

9.52pm: Thurston with a chance to take the margin to 12.

9.50pm: Gagai looks to have another try! Queensland are too good. Cronk to Thurston with a block play and the Cowboys champion put an inch perfect short kick in for Gagai to get his hat-trick.

9.47pm: We've got a ball game. NSW within a converted try. Bird off injured after trying to put a shot on Parker. Reynolds also getting treatment. Queensland with a repeat set.

9.43pm: Frizell crosses over after taking a pass from Reynolds. That's what NSW needed! Life for the Blues with Reynolds to kick them in within a converted try.

9.39pm: The Queenslanders throw Moylan back into the own goal. The difference! NSW concede a penalty now.

9.35pm: Thurston kicks it. 16-4. Long way back here for NSW.

9.33pm: Gagai crosses for his and Queensland's second. NSW centre Jenning has made a bad read in defence, rushed up and allowed the Maroons to cross in the corner. 14-4.

9.30pm: Ferguson does brilliantly to keep Walker in the field of play there with Inglis threatening to do a Tallis (on Hodgson) and drag his former South Sydney teammate into touch. Ferguson almost tackled his teammate.

9.28pm: NSW concede a penalty, a soft one. Can't afford that sort of ill discipline. You'd think NSW have to be almost perfect here.

9.26pm: We're back for the second half. Smith to kick off for Queensland...

9.08pm: That's halftime. NSW dominant but behind on the scoreboard. Enjoy the tea, oranges or whatever you're refreshment of choice is and we'll be back for the second half.

Here's video of Thiaday's tackle on Gallen

9.06pm: Fifita with a great covering tackle. He manages to bundle Oates into touch.

9.05pm: Maloney throws a pass to a non-existent winger. It goes into touch, obviously.

8:58pm: Try is given. Despite the ankle tap from Frizell, Gagai got over. Rope-a-dope Queenslanders score first, against the run of play. Thurston kicks it with some freakish bend. 10-4.

8.55pm: Gagai looks to have crossed for the opening try! The Maroons winger took an intercept and despite a great chase from Frizell, Gagai got over in the corner.

8.53pm: Bird loses the ball, a momentum killer. Blues on top

8.51pm: Thurston kicks dead now. Nice offload from Mansour gets the Blues' set off to a nice start.

8.50pm: Reynolds too heavy with a grubber kick. That kills teams. Gives Queensland a seven-tackle set.

8.49pm: A nice grubber kick from Maloney earns NSW a repeat set.

8.44pm: Queensland level it up through Thurston, who kicks the penalty goal. 4-4

8.42pm: The Maroons get another penalty, they're directing a lot of traffic at NSW's right edge, Walker and Reynolds. Another penalty for the Maroons. Four in a row now.

8.41pm: Queensland get back-to-back penalties, they get a chance inside the NSW 20m zone.

8.38pm: NSW kick the resulting penalty goal. Blues take the lead after what has been a very promising start. NSW 4-2.

8.36pm: Thaiday with a dangerous spear tackle on Gallen! The NSW captain landed on his head and Thaiday has been put on report.

8.33pm: We're level after Reynolds kicked a penalty goal of his own. 2-2.

8.31pm: The Maroons concede their first penalty for being inside the 10, NSW given an attacking opportunity, another penalty. Chance to take the two here.

8.30pm: Queensland open the scoring with a penalty goal. 2-0.

8.28pm: Queensland to take the two after Walker held Inglis back as the Queensland centre chased a kick.

8.26pm: Jackson finds the dead ball line with NSW's first kick. Queensland force a repeat set through Thurston at the other end after Smith made a break. Ominous signs.

8.23pm: Strong opening set from Queensland, Moylan takes the kick well

8.22pm: Slightly damp conditions, NSW to kick off...

8.17pm: NSW run out and there's a predictably hostile reception from Suncorp Stadium.

8.15pm: NSW have made one change ahead of kick-off with Tyson Frizell to start in place of Greg Bird, who shifts to the bench.

8.07pm: We're just moments away from kick-off. Can the Blues win to see another day? Or will the Maroons continue their historic dynasty with a 10th series win in 11 years?
