Connor Watson wants the NRL to take action with NSW Police investigating vision showing the NSW utility almost being struck by a drink can following Queensland's State of Origin victory on Wednesday night.

After the post-match formalities, Watson walked up to the first tier of seating inside Accor Stadium and shook hands with a fan when an object was thrown towards him from above.

The object was reportedly a full can of alcohol. The video shows people in the stadium yelling out to Watson before the can was thrown.

NSW Police have opened a probe into the matter.

"I'm a bit pissed off about it to be honest," Watson told 9News post-match.

"I just went up to see my family, one of my mates is in a wheelchair and can't come down and as I was walking up the stairs, a can of Canadian Club came down from up the top and nearly hit me. I'm not too happy about it to be honest.

"I think the NRL should do something about it for sure."
