Gallen to seek out Gould

NSW skipper Paul Gallen concedes he's no certainty to receive a State of Origin farewell and will seek out Phil Gould privately to bury the hatchet.

Gallen and Gould are at odds in the wake of the former Blues coach's scathing comments following NSW's Origin II loss to Queensland.

Gould made a veiled criticism of Gallen after Queensland secured their 10th series win in 11 years, calling out what he said were selfish elements of the team.

While Sharks coach Shane Flanagan stuck up for his charge, saying Gould's comments were unfair and the attack had become personal, Gallen refused to enter into the debate following their 19-18 win over Warriors on Saturday.

"I won't address that publicly, I'll address that in my own way," Gallen said.

"Everyone's entitled to their opinion, it doesn't mean that everyone agrees with it."

With Blues coach Laurie Daley under pressure to fast-track generational change, the likes of Steve Mortimer and Mark Geyer have called for sentiment to be taken out of the equation and for the state's most capped skipper to be dropped.

Daley publicly backed Gallen to be there for the July 13 dead rubber at ANZ Stadium and the Sharks captain said he wanted to be there.

However, he conceded his place in the team was no longer guaranteed.

"Origin III is unfortunately a dead rubber," Gallen said.

"If I'm there, I'm there, if I'm not, I'm not."
