Maroons fullback AJ Brimson has been ruled out for the remainder of the Origin series after suffering an injury to his foot in Wednesday's series opener.

Brimson was instrumental in Queensland's 18-14 win over New South Wales, scoring a try in the Maroons mighty comeback, but was rushed for scans following the match after injuring his left foot late in the game.

Team doctor Matt Hislop confirmed Brimson would likely miss the remaining two games.

"Scans confirmed a lisfranc ligament injury which will rule AJ out of the rest of the series," Hislop said.

"A specialist surgeon has been consulted and initial advice is for him to remain in camp."

Brimson said he was devastated by the news but backed his teammates to get the job done.

"I was stoked to make my Origin debut and to get the win was an incredible feeling," Brimson said.

"I've got great belief in the squad and we're really well placed to go on and win the series."

Meanwhile, the news is far better for star debutant Kurt Capwell who is expected to make a full recovery ahead of Game two after tweaking his groin.
