Ref reignites video technology debate

NRL referee Adam Devcich has reignited the debate surrounding the use of video technology after mistakenly awarding a try in the match between the Sharks and Dragons.

The visiting Sharks took the lead of the round 12 clash on Sunday when Valentine Holmes crossed in the corner in the ninth minute.

Pouncing on a perfectly placed Jack Bird chip, Holmes confidently touched down with Devcich, ignoring the video referee, pointing to the spot after checking with his touch judges.

At the time, the Channel Nine commentary team applauded the whistle-blower's quick decision making.

"That's something we like to see," veteran caller Ray Warren said.

But when replays of the incident were later shown, it was clear Devcich had made a massive blunder by not sending the decision upstairs with Holmes clearly fumbling the ball in the ingoal area.

However, the mistake had little impact on the result with the Dragons cruising to a 42-6 victory.
