Queensland Maroons name 21-man ahead of Origin Game 1

The Queensland Maroons have announced a 21-man squad ahead of their clash with Blues in Game 1 of the November Origin series.

Coach Wayne Bennett looks set to bring in a host of new faces with eight debutants named in the top 17 for when the Maroons take on the Blues at Adelaide Oval next Wednesday.

AJ Brimson, Xavier Coates, Brenko Lee, Phillip Sami, Jake Friend, Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, Lindsay Collins and Jaydn Su'A are the debutants named at this stage in the top 17.

The final squad will be confirmed an hour before kick-off.

The Maroons were dealt a number of cruel blows in the lead up to today's announcement with Valentine Holmes (available after Game 1), Kalyn Ponga and David Fifita all ruled out.

22-year-old Brimson looks set to take on the fullback duties in place of the injured Ponga while Coates and Sami take up the two wing positions as Lee joins Gagai in the centres.

Three-time Roosters premiership winner Friend will start at hooker with Fa'asuamaleaui taking up the lock position. Collins and Su'A will both come off the interchange.

Kurt Capewell, Moeaki Fotuaika, Dunamis Lui and Hymel Hunt were all named on the extended bench and if selected in the top 17, will make their Origin debut.
