Penrith Panthers centre Paul Momirovski faces two-week suspension for high tackle

Penrith centre Paul Momirovski is facing a fortnight on the sidelines after a high shot on Brisbane halfback Tom Dearden.

The incident took place in the 16th minute in last night's game, when Dearden put up an attacking kick inside Penrith's half, only to be collared by Momirovski as the ball left his boot.

The play drew indignation from both the crowd and commentators, but no penalty was given at the time.

It didn't hurt the Broncos too badly, who scored their opening try just three minutes later - they would eventually lose 20-12 in what was a surprisingly even contest.

"That was late and high ... oh they've let it go?" asked an incredulous Paul Vautin.

"That looked nasty didn't it."

"Oh, this is bad," said Andrew Johns as the kick sailed through the air.

"What are the touch judges doing? It looks like he hits him in the jugular. That's a penalty," Johns said.

Momirovski was handed a grade two dangerous contact charge for contact with the head and neck.

With an early guilty plea he will be given 225 points, which would result in a two-week suspension. Unsuccessfully fighting it at the judiciary would result in 300 points and a three-game ban.

Penrith have a run of home games coming up, hosting Newcastle next Thursday, Manly the following Saturday, and Cronulla the Friday after that.
