Corey Oates 'a bit filthy' with Valentine Holmes over NFL switch

He is a "bit filthy" with Valentine Holmes but Corey Oates has no problems with new Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold, re-signing with the Broncos for another 12 months.

Queensland winger Oates resisted the temptation to follow Wayne Bennett to South Sydney, inking a 2019 NRL deal in a shot in the arm for Seibold.

Oates had no complaints with Seibold, saying the ex-Rabbitohs mentor had "clicked" with players since his arrival this week after Bennett was sacked by Brisbane via voice message.

However, Oates admitted he was disappointed with Holmes after his Queensland teammate left for a crack at the NFL.

Oates said he had hoped ex-Cronulla flyer Holmes would bring the best out of him in a battle for Queensland's left winger spot in 2019.

Holmes and Dane Gagai were the Maroons wingers in 2018, with Oates only earning a game three State of Origin recall after skipper Greg Inglis' broken thumb forced a backline reshuffle.

"I want to secure that (Queensland left winger) spot," Oates told the Broncos website.

"But I am a bit filthy Val is gone because I wanted to prove that I could make it just off my own bat.

"But I still have to prove my worth (to Queensland selectors)."

Oates, 24, will also be out to prove himself to Seibold in 2019.

The lanky winger said he opted for a 12-month contract in order to impress Seibold and earn a multi-year Broncos deal in the future.

"There's been a lot going on in the back end of the season behind the scenes and the best option was to clear my head, sign the one-year deal and back myself once again," Oates said.

Oates and off-contract forwards Matt Lodge and Tevita Pangai were believed to be considering relocating to Redfern after Bennett left for the Rabbitohs on Monday.

However, Oates said he was relieved Seibold had finally arrived at Red Hill on a five-year deal after a month-long coach swap saga with Bennett.

"It's a big weight off everyone's shoulders," Oates said.

"It was very sad for Wayne the way it happened, I wish him the best, but we have Seibs now and we move on.

"And he has clicked straight into gear. He has fit in real well.

"We have direction now."

Lodge and Pangai are expected to re-sign in the coming weeks as Seibold finalises his squad for his debut season at the Broncos helm.
