O'Farrell appointed Wests Tigers chairman

The beleaguered Wests Tigers have scored a coup with former NSW premier Barry O'Farrell to replace outgoing chairwoman Marina Go.

A Tigers fanatic and long-time member, O'Farrell will step into the role over the next week after Go announced her departure in December.

O'Farrell's appointment is some much-needed good news after a tumultuous couple of months were marked by the club being slugged $375,000 and copping a $639,000 salary cap penalty for failing to declare an offer of a ambassadorial role made to Robbie Farah.

CEO Justin Pascoe was banned for six months for his role in the saga and will return to his post in June.

O'Farrell was forced to resign as NSW premier in 2014 after he misled an ICAC hearing over a $3,000 bottle of wine he was sent by then-Tigers board member Nick Di Girolamo.

O'Farrell is also the CEO of Racing Australia.
