The Mole: Tough decision facing Sharks NRLW star as big representative call looms

Sharks backrower Talei Holmes enters the new NRLW season - which kicks off on Thursday night - with a lot of choices to make in the months ahead.

A key figure in the Cronulla team that meets the Eels in the season opener, Holmes has already played for Fiji at Test level but has ambitions for a lot more representative footy.

"My grandmother was from Fiji and it was an honour to play for them and be named captain last year," Holmes told Wide World of Sports.

"But my mum is from New Zealand and playing for the Kiwis is something I wouldn't mind at some stage.

"And I also qualify for New South Wales so I'd love to play State of Origin if I'm good enough. I'll just have to see how everything falls into place."

The 25-year-old made her NRLW debut in 2020 with the Dragons, playing three seasons there before moving up the highway to the Sharks where she is also starting her third season.

"I just love the game and the friends I have made through it," the disability support worker said.

"We made the grand final last season and it is disappointing to get that close and then lose to the Roosters.

"But the new season is finally here and it's exciting times for the women's game."
