NRL: Angus Crichton reveals partially amputated finger in John Sutton social media post

South Sydney star Angus Crichton has flaunted his amputated finger for teammate John Sutton on social media.

Sutton shared a video of Crichton's new-look, four-and-a-half fingered hand, on Instagram as the Rabbitohs resume pre-season training ahead of their 2018 NRL campaign.

Crichton made the controversial choice to amputate the top half of his middle finger on his left hand late last month after injuring it playing in the NYC.

Speaking to the Player's Voice in early December, Crichton said after years of unsuccessful rehabilitation, reconstruction surgeries and frustratingly limited movement of his finger, he was "over it".

"My finger has been an ongoing injury I’ve had since I was playing in the under-20s. Originally, I ruptured the tendon and this is the sixth surgery I’ve had on it," he said.

"A while back, I got it fused. I’ve got no knuckle in it. The doctor said I could either cut it off halfway or fuse it. I’ve had it fused several times now because I keep breaking it.

"I can’t bend the finger, so it’s like I’m constantly giving people the bird. If I clench my fist, my middle finger sticks out."

The club confirmed the partial amputation fast-tracked his ability to return to playing sooner rather than later.

"Another reconstruction would have taken him between eight to 10 weeks to get over. This is going to take two weeks," Rabbitohs general manager Shane Richardson told NRL.com.

"It just became so frustrating for him that every off-season he had to have a reconstruction, so he opted to partially amputate his finger. He had this option 12 months ago, and he chose not to do it.

"Now he has chosen to go down this path, a decision he made himself."
