Canterbury Bulldogs star Moses Mbye set to announce deal with Wests Tigers: reports
Bulldogs star Moses Mbye is set to depart Canterbury according to reports.
The Wests Tigers have reportedly secured a three-year deal with Mbye according to NRL.com, with the signing to be announced next week.
It frees up some valuable cap space for the Bulldogs who have invested heavily in their forward pack, but are in dire need of talent elsewhere on their roster.
It is understood the Tigers are even trying to have Mbye join the team before the mid-season transfer deadline of June 30, though Mbye has reportedly indicated his desire to remain with Canterbury for the remainder of the 2018 NRL season.
The move would see Mbye leave Belmore despite being on a four-year contract that was meant to keep him at the club until 2020, and leave Canterbury forking out almost $300,000 over the next two seasons paying off his back-ended contract.
Ahead of the Tigers' clash against Canterbury this weekend, Wests coach Ivan Cleary declined to discuss how far negotiations have ventured with Mbye, however it comes as he gives Tuimoala Lolohea another shot at fullback this year.
"Tui's been sharp. He senses the opportunity, which, I've discussed often this year about (how) we'll be using all the guys in our squad at various times," Cleary said.
"He's got over his knee injury, played well the last couple of games and I think he can really add something to us tomorrow [Sunday]."
