Mark Geyer: Jake Trbojevic should replace Daly Cherry-Evans as Manly skipper

Former Blues Origin star Mark Geyer has called for the Manly captaincy to be handed to Jake Trbojevic over Daly Cherry-Evans on the back of a poor season.

Speaking on Triple M, Geyer suggested that it was time for the Sea Eagles to go in a new direction in order to secure the future of the Trbojevic brothers.

"It’s time for Jake to have the captaincy," Geyer said.

"He’s the player that nearly cries every time they get beat and that’s how much it means to him to pull that Manly jersey on. To me he is the obvious choice as skipper.

"Manly should do everything they can to sure him up for the long term."

Geyer called both Trbojevic brothers generational players and suggested that building around the dynamic duo will launch Manly to greater heights as opposed to building around Cherry-Evans.

"I would give them both lifetime contracts and I wouldn’t do that to many players," Geyer said.

"These two are players that come along once in a career.

"You have got to shift focus and build the whole team around the Trbojevic brothers

"Things shift and times change and halfbacks come and go."

Despite the turmoil that has engulfed the club this season, Cherry-Evans said this week that he is committed to the club long term.

Less certain is that of the future of Manly coach Trent Barrett who has been reported to wanting to walk out on the club multiple times in the past season.
