REPORT: Greg Inglis to miss start of NRL season sitting 15kg overweight

South Sydney captain Greg Inglis will reportedly miss the opening two round of the 2019 NRL season due to issues with his weight.

The report comes just days after it was revealed the 32-year-old would sit out the Rabbitoh’s trial matches and the Indigenous All Stars exhibition match in February after aggravating an existing knee injury.

“Greg Inglis, they’re all saying, he will not be there,” Triple M reporter Ben Dobbin told The Big Breakfast on Tuesday.

“I spoke to Wayne (Bennett) about this. He won’t be there for round one or two because he’s 15 kilos over his playing weight.”

If true, it means the 2014 premiership winner will miss South Sydney’s Round 1 clash against the Sydney Roosters on Friday march 15 and he following week’s matchup against St George Illawarra.

It is understood Inglis is already on restricted duties with the Rabbitohs after he experienced discomfort with the knee he had reconstructed in 2017.

Coach Wayne Bennett played down concern over the injury claiming Inglis “has just got soreness there”.
