NRL expert tips and predictions: Round 4

The Rabbitohs and Bulldogs facing off over the Easter weekend has become an NRL tradition – the spiteful affairs earning the tag ‘Bad Friday’ over the years – and while both teams are coming off wins, Andrew Johns reckons the Dogs’ experience will see them through.

Round four of the NRL kicks off with the Cowboys hosting the Panthers in North Queensland, live and free on Nine on Thursday night from 7.30pm, in a huge weekend of footy that will see Nine broadcasting four matches live to air – including the Bunnies vs Dogs, with coverage live from 3pm on Friday.

For our tipsters, Locky remains in the lead, although Freddy has brought him back to within one point, with Joey a further point adrift. Wally and Sterlo are the middle of the pack, while Gus needs a big weekend if he’s going to be in the conversation come the pointy end of proceedings.

After a pair of losses to start the season for both Souths and Canterbury, new coaches Anthony Siebold and Dean Pay each earned the first wins of their careers in charge, with the Rabbitohs particularly impressive as they ran out 34-6 winners over Manly.

However, Joey says their stint in the winners’ circle won’t last long.

“I’m going to tip the Dogs, purely on their experience in the halves,” Johns said.

“I like Kieran Foran there at halfback, I think he’ll steer the team around. And Moses Mbye has been a revelation at fullback.”

That said, Doggies fans shouldn’t be overly confident with Joey’s endorsement.

“There’ll be nothing in this game, could go either way, but I’ll lean towards the Bulldogs,” he said.

Shifting to who’ll get the chocolates out of the Dragons and Knights when they meet live and free on Nine at 3pm this Easter Sunday, Joey was a lot more certain of one thing – there will be points!

“It’ll be a high-scoring game this one, really entertaining – could be upwards of 50, 60 points scored,” Joey said.

However, that’s where the good news ended for Newcastle fans.

“I think the Dragons will win and win well,” he said.

“The Dragons are flying at the moment.”
