NRL: Crowd member throws projectile at Sydney Roosters' Latrell Mitchell in qualifying final

A suspected Sharks fan has come under fire for launching a projectile at Sydney Roosters star Latrell Mitchell as he attempted a conversion in Saturday night’s qualifying final against Cronulla.

The young centre showed safe hands to reclaim the lead for the Roosters in the 52^nd minute but upon lining up his conversion attempt to secure a four-point buffer an object was thrown his way.

“Someone from the Sharks crowd has thrown something in front of Latrell Mitchell,” commentator Phil Gould said.

“He can see the funny side of it but he’s got to start again.

“How much can that put you off?!”

However, an enraged Andrew Johns went one step further calling for the fans removal from the Allianz Stadium.

“That’s rubbish,” Johns said.

“Whoever throws that, throw yourself out of the stadium.

“We don’t need that rubbish going on, but it won’t worry this man.”

Despite Johns’ assurance the incident may have affected Mitchell, as hooked his conversion well right of the upright forcing the Roosters defend a slim two-point buffer.

The Sharks would not find themselves back in the game however with Cooper Cronk leading his men to a 21-12 victory, moving them within one win of a grand final appearance.

The Sharks will face Penrith next week in an elimination final.
