NRL bad boy Todd Carney to be thrown lifeline by North Queensland Cowboys

NRL bad boy Todd Carney has been linked to a shock return with the North Queensland Cowboys on a one-deal for the 2018 season.

9News reported Danny Weidler tweeted that Carney has already agreed to terms and the deal will be signed on Wednesday.

Carney, 31, last played in the NRL in 2014 for Cronulla before being booted out of the game after a lewd image of him pretending to urinate in his own mouth was posted on social media.

He is currently contracted to one of the Cowboys’ feeder clubs, the Northern Pride, in the Intrust Super Cup and has already undergone testing at the club. However, he could still face a hurdle with any return having to be rubber stamped by the NRL.

He would face an uphill battle to crack a starting spot with Johnathan Thurston returning from a shoulder injury to partner Michael Morgan in the halves, with Te Maire Martin also on the books.
