Norman stood down by Eels after conviction

Eels star Corey Norman has been stood down indefinitely by Parramatta after he was convicted of drug possession.

The 25-year-old was caught with MDMA capsules and muscle relaxants at Sydney's The Star casino in May.

Norman yesterday pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited drug and a prescribed restricted substance.

He was fined $400 for each of the charges.

Norman has been stood down from this weekend's game against the Penrith Panthers and will face the Eels' disciplinary committee this week.

The Eels will meet with the NRL this week to review the matter.

Norman's defence barrister, Murugan Thangaraj, yesterday asked Magistrate Michael Price not to record a conviction but his request was denied.

"He should be making better choices," Mr Price said.
