Fifita revival continues as star-studded Aussie squad unveiled

Some of the game’s best young talents and a few Kangaroos bolters for the World Cup have been included in the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII squad.
The side will be coached by Ben Te’o, who will be part of Kevin Walters′ staff for the tournament, the playing group is headlined by a resurgent David Fifita as captain.

After signing with South Sydney this season, the barnstorming back-rower has returned to form and is in the mix for Kangaroos selection next month.
Bulldogs halfback Lachlan Galvin has also been selected, while Raiders hooker Owen Pattie and Cowboys speedster Jaxon Purdue are among the other young talents who are getting an early glimpse into the representative arena.
Dragons twins Toby and Ryan Couchman, as well as teammate Hamish Stewart, have also been rewarded for breakout 2026 campaigns.
“I could not be more excited and confident to be guiding this team of players,” Te’o said in a statement on Friday afternoon.
“The squad is filled with incredible talent, some of them still early in their career but who are making a massive impact with their respective clubs. We’ve got some real strength in this side up front as well as fast and dynamic backs.”
NRL executive chairman Peter V’landys believes the strong playing group heading over to Papua New Guinea will make an impact on and off the field.
“The players selected are some of the best players in the game,” Mr V’landys said.
“Not only do they have the opportunity to represent their country, they will be ambassadors for Australia and for rugby league. They will change lives for the better ... I congratulate them on their selection.”
Australia have also named a women’s PM’s XIII team, with Eels centre Rory Owen and Dragons playmaker Kasey Reh among the rising stars included.
“This is a really exciting group of players who have each had a fantastic 2026 NRLW season. The abundance of young talent balanced with our experienced leaders will ensure we put on an entertaining show,” coach Jess Skinner said.
Both teams will face PNG in Port Moresby on Saturday, October 3.
