'Take a breath': Manly coach responds to Daly Cherry-Evans rumours as Tom Trbojevic given '50/50' chance to play

Tom Trbojevic has been rated as a "50/50" chance to play this weekend, while coach Anthony Seibold has moved to quash rumours regarding the future of Daly Cherry-Evans.

The superstar Manly fullback left the field in the second half of last Friday's shock loss against the Warriors, with initial concerns over his troublesome hamstring.

While the scans came back rather positive, Trbojevic's history with similar injuries has left many wondering if the Sea Eagles would risk him in round three.

The 28-year-old was named in his usual spot on Tuesday afternoon, but in an interview on SEN radio, the coach gave clarification about the marquee man's chances of playing.

"We have named him and we are optimistic," Seibold said.

"Turbo will definitely have to complete a fitness test towards the end of the week. We'll be cautious with him. Nothing showed up on the scan so it's just general tightness.

"There's a history there so we have to make sure we get him right before we put him back on the field. If he doesn't play this week, he'll play the following week.

"If he doesn't play, it's because we are getting rid of that hamstring tightness.

"We are optimistic but we are still 50/50 with Turbo."

The other injury concern for the Sea Eagles coming out of last week's clash was skipper Cherry-Evans, who walked off in agony after suffering back spasms.

While he looks set to take on the Raiders, there are some other question marks looming when it comes to the NRL's oldest player.

Still unsigned beyond this year, Cherry-Evans has been linked with a number of rival clubs - but Seibold is hopeful Manly will be able to retain the 36-year-old.

[We are happy] if he wants to play on," he said.

"He hasn't made a decision on what he wants to do, so until then everyone needs to take a breath. We have had private discussions that I won't talk about publicly.

"As long as I'm coaching, I would love to have him and he's an integral part of our group.

"He's only got better. His performances over the last few years have been outstanding."

Cherry-Evans is reportedly looking for an extension, but would potentially need to take a pay-cut to remain on the Northern Beaches.
