Talented local junior Sean Russell looks set to take over Zac Lomax's right wing spot at Parramatta next season - but there could be a hiccup.

Russell comes off contract at the end of next season and is squarely in the sights of the Perth Bears for their maiden campaign in 2027.

The Eels are keen to retain Russell, who suddenly is a key man due to Lomax's shock departure, but he stands to do better financially at the Bears, who are desperate for experienced players to fill their roster.

"There is interest there so Sean has some decisions to make," Russell's manager Gavin Orr told Wide World of Sports.

Russell played 20 games for the Eels this year - mainly in the centres, scoring five tries and kicking 15 goals.

The Bears are slowly but surely putting together their 30 man squad with six signings to date.

Former Canterbury halfback Toby Sexton will steer the team around the park while Leeds Rhinos centre Harry Newman, ex-Bulldogs forward Luke Smith, former Cowboys forward Emarly Bitungane, Panthers premiership winner Liam Henry and former Titans prop Iszac Fa'asuamaleaui have also signed up.
