Canberra dealt huge blow as in-form recruit Matty Nicholson sidelined for three months

Canberra have been dealt a massive blow, with in-form English recruit Matty Nicholson set to miss the next three months of action.

The 21-year-old left the field with an ankle injury during Saturday's loss against the Bulldogs and has since undergone scans.

The club has since confirmed Nicholson suffered both a syndesmosis injury and a fractured fibula, with an estimated recovery time of 12 weeks.

It's a huge setback for Nicholson, who has been one of the Raiders' best this season after moving across from the Super League, scoring five tries in nine matches.

The back-rower was a highly-touted signing for the Green Machine, having excelled under the coaching of Sam Burgess in recent years at Warrington.

Nicholson has two caps for England and is expected to feature in the Ashes series at the end of the season against the Kangaroos.

In his place, Zac Hosking will likely fill the void in the second-row for the Raiders.

Canberra will take on the Gold Coast Titans in round 11.
